in 4 UDR

17th May 1972

A claymore mine was found after a patrol cam under fire at Gr 547360 (Derryvollan). 

19th May 1972

Two Ferrets and a Saracen of the 16/5 Lancers were fired on from Gr 557342. Some thirty to forty rounds of high velocity .22 were used. No fire was returned. A half troop of two Ferrets was fired on by two gunmen at Gr 486254, 100m north of the border near Clontivern. Fifteen to twenty M1 Carbine rounds were fired at the Ferrets. 29 x .30 rounds were returned.One hit was claimed, but two shots struck the Ferrets, although there were no casualties.

22nd May 1972

A soldier from 4 UDR was shot at while driving his car near Clontivern.

17th May 1973

The police, while on a routine patrol near Letter (gr 0864), shot and killed a suspected Provisional IRA man after he failed to stop his car when ordered to do so.

16th May 1974

At 2314hrs two mortar bombs were fired at an Army observation post at Gr 944503, Garrison, from a derelict house at Gr 941502. There were no casualties. Army Bomb Disposal investigated the firing point where he found twenty live mortar bombs and a mortar base plate.

17th May 1975

At 1130hrs at Gr 514324, two miles west of Rosslea, a Royal Engineer Search Team and Army Bomb Disposal ffound two 10.4mm live Vetteri rounds, one live .303 round, two alarm clocks, one battery, three .303 blank rounds and a quantity of clothes pegs in a derelict house. Army Bomb Disposal reported a strong smell of Nitro Benzine on entering the derelict and samples were taken for analysis.  

19th May 1976

At 2015hrs an Army patrol was caught by a culvert device at Gr 376304. The device detonated behind the rear vehicle, a Ferret Scout Car causing minor shock to the crew and drew the vehicle into the crater. It was estimated to be a 300lb plus device due to the size of the crater. 

22nd May 1976

At 1815hrs a bomb was planted in a shop at Rosslea, Gr 533346. Army Bomb Disposal was tasked and confirmed the device consisted of 35lbs of home made explosive. 

22nd May 1977

At approximately 1505hrs Army Bomb Disposal neutralised a device, which was left behind the Mullen Customs Post. There were no casualties. 

18th May 1979

At 1832hrs there was a partial explosion of a car bomb outside the Valley Hotel, Fivemiletown. There were no casualties. The device was estimated to have contained 180lbs of home made explosives. 

19th May 1979

At 1208hrs at Gr 942578, a retired soldier from 4 UDR, who had left the Regiment four years previously, was shot dead.

18th May 1984

At 1732hrs there was a booby trap van explosion near the car park of the Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen, Gr 23394396. There were four casualties, two of whom died.
